Behind the Chair: Which Tampa Bay Salons Made the Cut

A few weeks ago, I did a piece on how the city of Tampa was struggling with its Instagram account, and it is a struggle that many businesses share. The Tampa Bay beauty industry, however, has embraced Instagram with great success; hair salons specifically are doing exceptionally well. As New Year’s resolutions are in full-swing, it’s an opportune time for local vanity-centric businesses to target those creating their #NewYearNewMe look.

Personally, whenever I need a haircut I just Google Map the nearest Supercuts, much to the horror of my fiancé. Recently, she wanted to try something new with her hair and went to Instagram for inspiration. Confused, I asked why she didn’t just look up Yelp reviews. She pointed out that while Yelp reviews can be reliable, pictures add to the allure of a salon.  (more…)

Most businesses of any size now have at least some social media presence. One platform that too many businesses ignore, however, is YouTube. Google’s massive video platform, far from being useful exclusively for video blogs and tutorial videos, is an excellent marketing platform when used correctly.

Who Scored and Who Fumbled: Tampa Businesses Struggle to Capitalize on the College Football National Championship on Twitter

Hosting the College Football Playoff National Championship is an honor for any city; and it can be lucrative as well.  Tampa looked to bring in close to $300 million to its economy. These high profile games provide a great opportunity for local businesses.

One simple way to tap into the financial potential of the event was through social media.  So why didn’t more local businesses capitalize on it?

Marketing and advertising used to be a lot harder (not to mention expensive).  The rise of social media has changed that, and made it possible even for smaller businesses to taste some of that $300 million with a well-executed marketing campaign.  Sadly, most Tampa Bay businesses did not demonstrate an understanding of how to do this and many didn’t even make an attempt to.  Even local sports bars struggled with their social media efforts.  After running a Scraawl  Brand Monitoring Report on 10 of the most popular sports bars in the Bay area, it became very clear who was investing in social media marketing…. and those who didn’t even take the field. tumblrTumblr is an exciting, thriving social media platform. Golden Globes Fun, Tumblr Love, and Why Gifs are Great

“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

If your event isn’t turned into a gif on Tumblr, did it even happen?!

These are the modern-day questions we have to ask ourselves as digital marketing evolves into content creation and curation. One of the oft-overlooked social media platforms in the content process is Tumblr, but with its highly visual layouts and passionate “fandoms,” it would be a mistake to think of it simply as the online diary of pre-teens.

Take the Golden Globes for example– let’s see how the award show fared on Tumblr.

The Social Media Highs and Lows of #NewYear2017

Welcome back from the long holidays and happy new year! New Year’s Eve (NYE) is a truly global holiday, one that is celebrated across different creeds and nationalities. Chances are you, like millions of others, probably looked at social media during NYE. Perhaps you Instagrammed your night, took a snap of your outfit, or tweeted resolutions.

On the night of the big count-down, I ran a Scraawl report on the Twitter hashtag #NewYear2017, to capture social media history in its posterity and to see perhaps how the human race was celebrating.

What I found was indeed human: silly, serious, and a little messy. Here were the highs and lows of #NewYear2017:

Hey, Where the Party At: Tampa’s Top 3 New Year’s Eve Parties According to Twitter Analysis

12017 couldn’t get here soon enough. Seriously, this past year was so bad that someone started a GoFundMe page trying to save Betty White from 2016. What better way to put 2016 behind us than ushering in the new year with a bang, and I am one who loves to go all-out on NYE (last year one lady saw me and said to her husband, “see, that is how you are supposed to dress for New Years”).  This year I wanted to try something different. I spent one New Year’s Eve watching the pineapple drop in Sarasota, and last year I had a blast at St. Petersburg’s First Night. This year I wanted to hit up Tampa, and of course being the social media nerd that I am, I wanted to see which party has been successfully creating the most hype. So, I conducted a brand monitoring report using Scraawl and am excited to announce the countdown of the top 3 New Year’s Eve parties in Tampa according to the analytics. (more…)
